South Africans demand president’s resignation

On Friday, tens of thousands of people across South Africa marched to demand the resignation of President Jacob Zuma. The protests come after Zuma dismissed finance minister Pravin Gordhan last week, contributing to the country’s debt rating to fall to “junk” status.

Protestors in Cape Town were joined by anti-apartheid leader Desmond Tutu.

Women bikers in Pakistan reclaim public spaces

It’s more than just getting to ride a bike in public. The feminist collective Girls at Dhabas in Pakistan is on a mission to reclaim public spaces typically dominated or exclusively frequented by men. They organize women-only bike rides and work to get more women to participate in public events throughout the country.

Tensions rise in Venezuela as marches continue

Near-daily protests have shut down Venezuela’s capital. Sparked anew by the Supreme Court’s decision last week to nullify Congress (a decision that was since overturned), anti-government demonstrations are cranking up the pressure for new elections to be called.
