Kelly Stone, Senior Policy Analyst at ActionAid USA, said:

“Today’s proposal by the EPA shows just how broken the Renewable Fuel Standard really is.

“The policy was put in place by Congress to support the growth of clean renewable energy, but these fuels have not developed at the volumes needed after more than a decade. The EPA continues to support this broken policy, papering over the cracks with biofuels made from food crops that are damaging for people and our planet.

“But this now has to change, and the RFS must be reformed. It’s time to put an end to these flawed biofuels mandates that serve only to line the pockets of industrial agriculture, propping up a model of farming that is hurting family farmers and polluting our environment. We must replace them with clean sources of energy that will help – not harm – the fight against climate change.”
