Earthquakes Hit Central Italy

It’s been a shaky week for Italy. Two and a half months after a 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit Central Italy, a series of quakes struck the region beginning on October 26. On Sunday, the country saw its largest earthquake in 36 years. While the death toll has thankfully remained low, dozens were injured, and thousands have remained in temporary shelters since the August earthquake.

ActionAid is working with the Italian Civil Protection department to respond to the latest earthquakes. To support ongoing earthquake recovery in Central Italy, please donate at https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/italy-earthquake-relief.

Biofuels and WikiLeaks

Recently published WikiLeaks emails reveal Hillary Clinton’s ambiguous stance on renewable fuels: supporting ethanol production while alluding to the need for reforms. In one exchange, Clinton aides discuss varying positions on ethanol and the Renewable Fuels Standard. The email is one of thousands related to the presidential candidate’s stance on environmental issues.

ActionAid believes that corn ethanol is a false solution for climate change. We recognize that real solutions are needed for farmers here in the U.S. and overseas that protect their livelihoods, and for tackling climate change.

Poor air quality in India claims more than half a million lives each year.
