Support Families impacted by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria
On Monday, February 6, 2023, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the southern part of Turkey and northern Syria, killing more than 20,000 people and injuring over 70,000 others. The death toll is expected to rise as families are still trapped under rubble amidst the collapse of thousands of buildings in more than 20 cities and towns. Back-to-back aftershocks continue to cause catastrophic destruction to areas already badly affected by the initial earthquake. People in the regions impacted by the earthquake already lived in very vulnerable situations, having fled their homes in war-torn Syria. The devastation caused by this tragic disaster will mean they have experienced one disaster on top of another, leaving them in a compounded humanitarian crisis. ActionAid is assessing the impacts of this disaster while providing shelter, warm clothing, and food to those who have lost their homes. We are uniquely placed, through our women- and young people-led human rights-based approach, to make a distinct contribution in the response to this emergency, prioritizing highly vulnerable groups, including refugees, female-headed households, and people with disabilities. Take action today. Your donation helps us respond to immediate needs and sustain long-term disaster preparedness around the world. Let's do more together. Photo credit: Alven/Anadolu Agency, 2023
