In response to the collapse of the 20th Green Climate Fund board meeting, Brandon Wu, Director of Policy and Campaigns at ActionAid USA, said:

“International negotiations are always difficult, especially when money is involved. At the 20th Green Climate Fund board meeting, countries were unable to overcome an overwhelming number of process challenges and bridge deeply divergent views. Despite the disappointment, the GCF is needed more than ever. Temperatures are at record highs and climate impacts are worsening around the world. The people and communities the GCF is meant to support – those who are most vulnerable – are the ones who suffer the most when progress is delayed. The Board must do better and right the ship at its next meeting in October, and rich countries must deliver on their obligations to provide finance for climate action in the global south.”
