The GAFSP has opened the call for proposals for PO-led projects

As our world faces an unprecedented crisis, the number of food-insecure people is expected to double from what it was in 2019, placing 49 countries at risk of famine.

The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP), which was created to help low-income countries build sustainable and resilient agriculture and food systems, continues to provide additional finance to support the most vulnerable communities.

The GAFSP has launched the second part of its 7th Call for Proposals, which is entirely dedicated to food Producer Organizations (PO) – that is, farmers and farmers’ organizations. The objective of the PO-led financing track is to provide direct funding to POs who are traditionally unable to access finance to support their investments in agriculture and food security.

If adequately supported, POs can strengthen their resilience in this time of crisis and support communities when their livelihoods are harshly affected by climate change, conflicts, the pandemic, and now soaring prices.

Thanks to the continued pressure by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), including ActionAid USA, and POs within the GAFSP, this financing track was created with the recognition that POs are the vehicle for increasing livelihood opportunities for its members through capacity building and greater access to financial markets and services.

All the documents and requirements for the POs to apply are provided on the GAFSP website.

We encourage POs to apply and make use of this financial support to help recover from the crisis and provide evidence of the POs-led successful experiences.
