ActionAid Gets UN Sasakawa Award Certificate of Distinction

Please join us in celebrating good news - ActionAid has been awarded a Certificate of Distinction in the UN Sasakawa Award for Disaster Reduction.

This prestigious distinction recognises "innovation, groundbreaking research and ideas, and extraordinary grassroots initiatives from around the world" and is an acknowledgement to the creative and committed efforts of our colleagues and partners to make communities safer from risks and hazards. As this is the first time since 2003 that an organisation rather than an individual has been awarded a certificate, we are especially proud of this achievement.

The jury selected ActionAid for its work in integrating disaster risk reduction into “national, sub-national, sectoral and community initiatives and has facilitated the development and introduction of the Hyogo Framework as a component of these efforts at moving societies towards inclusive, integrated strategies and plans for achieving sustainable development in the near future.”

In addition, the jury commended ActionAid for making its disaster risk reduction work widely available to others.

Please join me in appreciating and thanking Richard Miller (ID for the Human Security theme) and Roger Yates (Head of International Emergencies and Conflict) and our international, regional and country IECT team members and partners for making us so proud with their excellent work.
